The Dangers of Liquid Silicone: The Story of Khun Nat Nissamanee

liquid silicone complications

This week… I find it impossible to speak about anything else. Because what society is discussing — and what I have personally experienced — is the story of Khun Nat Nissamanee, a well-known Thai influencer who has had to face the consequences of liquid substance injections performed more than 10 years ago.

Our first meeting…
The first time Khun Nat came in for consultation, I immediately felt her warmth, friendliness, and bright smile — despite the deep concern she carried regarding the injected material in both cheeks, especially on the left side, which had begun to show signs of inflammation and abnormal enlargement.

That day, we discussed treatment options, arranged an MRI scan to evaluate the exact location and depth of the material, and prescribed antibiotics to stabilize her condition.

Our second meeting…
One week later, the MRI results confirmed our concerns. The mass on the left side was no longer a simple lump — it had become a deep abscess, and what appeared externally like an inflamed acne lesion was, in reality, something far more serious.

I remember that day clearly — we spoke at length to go through every possible risk, including the possibility of nerve injury leading to facial asymmetry, uneven or depressed skin, or even the need for an external incision to drain the infection.

In the end… we made the decision to proceed with emergency surgery that very night to prevent further spread of the infection.

In the operating room…
When the intraoral incision was opened, what we encountered was more than 30 cc of thick, greenish pus continuously draining out, along with liquid material dispersed like fine grains of sand.

For over two full hours, my team and I carefully debrided, irrigated, and managed the area in meticulous detail. Ultimately, the surgery was completed successfully.

After surgery…
During the first few days, the swelling was quite significant. However, after 2–3 days, her condition gradually improved, and by day five, Khun Nat was able to return home.

That said, close follow-up remains essential, as infections related to liquid substances are complex. Some organisms may grow slowly or present symptoms again at a later stage.

What I will never forget is Khun Nat’s smile as it returned. This smile was not only a sign of physical recovery, but a reflection of her strength, sincerity, and positive energy — a light she continues to share with those around her.

A reflection…
Khun Nat’s story reminds us that:
“Beauty achieved too quickly may come with a price to be paid one day.”

Not every shortcut is worth taking.

For anyone considering liquid injections — or for those with loved ones who are — I want to say just one thing: always choose the safest option for yourself.

Next week, I will explain in detail what “liquid substances” truly are, how dangerous they can be, and why they remain a problem even today.
